An in-conversation between artists Marcela Sinclair, Laura Eldret and curator Alejandra Aguado exploring ideas of experiencing landscapes from afar and remote associations with places.
Buenos Aires-based Marcela Sinclair is the first artist contributing to TeleVistas, a series of new commissions for More Than Ponies. Each commissioned artists responds to a series of video broadcasts of New Forest landscapes created during the summer of 2020 by More Than Ponies in collaboration with local individuals. Sinclair’s short video essay Around the block links her Buenos Aires neighbourhood with the UK’s New Forest. Limiting her walk to the 500 metres that she was permitted to travel during the early quarantine, Around the block shows that history and ideas can be found in the holes and cracks of the urban landscape.
Laura Eldret is the founder of More Than Ponies. In 2016 she undertook a residency investigating the Welsh colonies of Patagonia, with support from Gasworks (UK) and Urra (Argentina). And Over to You… is a research project that investigates the ways in which people perform collective identities, exploring the remote ideals of Welshness in Argentina. The project explores the ways collective identities are exported and imported, and how making (textiles, performance and video) can forge trans-regional connections.
Alejandra Aguado is a collaborator on TeleVistas, who has nominated contributing artists Marcela Sinclair and Cotelito.

Alejandra Aguado is a curator based in Buenos Aires. She is curator at the Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires. In 2014 she co-founded Móvil, which she co-ran until the end of 2019: a non-profit organization dedicated to exhibiting local emerging artists, and commissioning what is often their first solo show—or their most ambitious production to date. Among other independent curatorial work, in 2019 she co-curated ‘Utopia', the emerging galleries section of arteBA Fair of Art Galleries. Between 2016 and 2017 she conceived and curated the programme 'Relieves. Experiencias artísticas en territorio', an initiative of the Ministry of Culture in Argentina and arteBA Foundation, for which she developed artistic projects in dialogue with a variety of communities. She was Assistant Curator at Tate, London. She has a degree in Communication Studies and an MA in Curating Contemporary Art from the Royal College of Art, London.
Marcela Sinclair is based in Buenos Aires. Sinclair frequently explores themes of displacement and geometry through practices that include sculpture, installation, collaborative works and site-specific interventions. Sinclair was awarded the first prize for sculpture from The National Fund for the Arts of Argentina (2017) and has works in public collections at Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes en Neuquén, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Rosario and Museo de Bellas Artes de Salta, Argentina.
Laura Eldret explores social forms and works across art forms including installation, textiles, performance and video. Selected exhibitions include Karst and The Box, Plymouth (2019); Firstsite, Colchester (2018); Turf Projects, Croydon (2017); CCA Derry, NI (2016); Fig-2, ICA, London (2015); Focal Point Gallery, Southend (2015); Drawing Room, London (2015); South London Gallery (2013); Ikon, Birmingham (2013); The Gallery, Arts University Bournemouth (2012); Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Newcastle upon Tyne (2012); and Camden Arts Centre, London (2011). In 2016 she was shortlisted for the Vordemberger Prize and awarded a Gasworks URRA residency in Buenos Aires. Eldret is a visiting tutor in Fine Art at Arts University Bournemouth and has guest lectured at RCA, Goldsmiths and University of the Arts London. Curatorial experience includes delivering public art and projects for Contemporary Art Society ( 2004–12), co-founder and co-director of CollectingLiveArt (2007–10) and recently establishing More Than Ponies, a new artist-led programme of contemporary art for and/ or about the New Forest.
